British Sausage Week 2013 was a great success and saw celebrity chef Simon Rimmer racing around the country judging the best locally produced butchers sausages.
The week started with sausages from the South and East area finalists being tasted on Friday 1st November 2013 at a special event for one day only in London’s famous Old Spitalfields Market. The day was a great success and featured our very own Shaun Vining as ‘Sausage Sommelier’ who was part of the judging team along with the celebrity ambassador TV chef and restaurateur. The pop up event showcased over 100 variations of quality award winning pork sausages as well as helped launch this year’s British Sausage Week 2013.
Shaun is the perfect person to guide tasters on how to sniff out an award winning sausage having competed in one of the industry’s most prestigious competitions Champion of Champions four times and also being awarded the South West butchers regional champion on several occasions. From his butchers shops in Devon, Shaun is committed to supplying top quality sausages to his customers. Balancing various flavours and seasonings Shaun and his staff produce around 25,000 sausages in an average week making him an ideal choice to offer all the sausage insight you may need.
Celebrity TV chef Simon Rimmer, a judge during the tour, commented: “I am thrilled to be undertaking this journey of discovery to find Britain’s Greatest Sausages. As a chef, I know that sausages can be one of the best value meals to feed a family and when you choose those with a Red Tractor pork logo on pack you’re not only supporting responsible pig farmers but ensuring the sausages you eat are produced to exacting standards too.”
Sausage Sommelier Shaun Vining commented: ‘It’s great to be involved with British Sausage Week this year. Not only am I discovering some of Britain’s Greatest Sausages with the Pop-Up Shop, I will also be promoting the quality and diversity of sausages we have right here on our doorstep. With so many pork sausages available I am looking forward to tempting visitors to try some of the different flavour combinations on offer to see what tickles their taste buds and hopefully encourage them to try sausages in a different way.”
Now in its 16th year, British Sausage Week looks to celebrate the taste, quality and diversity of the pork sausage, through a series of events, up and down the country from November 4th to the 10th.
This year Complete Meats very own young butcher Philip Collins won a regional competiotion in the South West with his Pickly Pork Sausages which are now on sale in or shops.
